Alicia Mercado Fernandez

Alicia M. Fernandez, 74, of Poplar Grove, IL, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Sunday, February 5, 2023. She was born on April 27, 1948, in Mexico. She was the daughter of the late Fransico and Juanita (Banuelos) Mercado and the sister of the late Roberto Mercado. She married the love of her life, Pablo Fernandez, on October 4, 1980, at St. James Catholic Church in Elgin, IL. She loved to spend time with her family and take care of her grandchildren. She was the matriarch of the family and was always so well put together. Alicia was known to be an excellent cook. She is loved and will be missed by her beloved husband, Pablo; her children, Juliana Gonzalez and Pablo Fernandez; her grandchildren, Yosaline, Hazari, Amaaris, Jeremiah, Ezequiel, Nadia, Nayeli, and Pablo Antonio; her brothers, Sergio Mercado and Everado Mercado; her sister, Olga Mercado; and her special dog, Peluche. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Roberto Mercado. There will be a visitation on Thursday, February 16, 2023, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Belvidere Funeral Home and Cremation Service. There will be rosary at 6:30 P.M. There will be a funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, February 17, 2023, at St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere, IL. Interment in Belvidere Cemetery.
