Bernetta "Bunnie" Koenig

Bernetta “Bunnie” Koenig, 96, of Belvidere, IL passed away Friday, September 15, 2023, at her home. She was born October 1, 1926, in Marshfield, WI. The daughter of the late Michael and Marie (Stauss) Stangl. She married the love of her life, Ervin A. Koenig June 19, 1948, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Marshfield, WI. Bunnie was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere, IL, along with a member of the Catholic Daughters and St. James Choir. She also was a member of St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary and tutored children at St. James School. When she wasn’t volunteering her time or helping others, she enjoyed spending time with her family and was an avid card player. She is loved and will be missed by her sons, Patrick Koenig, Kipp (Jeanine) Koenig; daughter, Kathleen Plager; grandchildren, Todd, Jennifer, and Nathan Plager, Scott, Sean, Michael, and Joseph Koenig; great grandchildren, Trinity Lynn, Kairo, Roxanna, and Grace; brothers, Gene Stangl, Robert (Sharon) Stangl; sisters, Darlene (Wendelyn) Adler, Judy Casperson, Pattie Carl. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ervin; sisters, Virgie (Melvin) Schonfeldt, Jackie Young. A special thanks to her passionate caregivers, Chris and Kayla Miller and Elizabeth Bobson. There will be a visitation Friday, September 22, 2023, from 9:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at the Belvidere Funeral & Cremation Service in Belvidere, IL. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 A.M. at St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere, IL. Interment in Highland Garden of Memories in Belvidere, IL. In lieu of flowers Masses are preferred.
