Charles S. Harned, 92, of Belvidere passed away Saturday January 19, 2013 after a short illness. He was born June 27, 1920 in Belvidere, the son of William and Ella (Barmore) Harned. A graduate of Belvidere High School in 1938, he then attended Illinois Wesleyan College and later earned his Masters Degree from VanDerCook College of Music. Charles served in the U.S. Army during WWII
in Japan and the Philippines. He married Genevieve R. Builta November 25, 1942
in Lincoln, IL. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage before her passing in 2009. Charles taught Band in Mt. Pulaski, IL before returning to Belvidere where he taught Band at Belvidere High School for several years. He then taught History at Belvidere High School until retiring in 1985. A member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the church
choir, and was involved in various functions at church. A member of V.F.W. John Hugo Kaiser Post#1461, Charter member of Belvidere Men's Garden Club and was active with several service clubs. He was an avid White Sox fan, enjoyed gardening, raising pigeons, reading, African violets and especially loved crossword puzzles. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra (Rich) Buker of Belvidere. Sons,William (Jennifer) Harned of Mason,Ohio, James (Chrys) Harned of Belvidere. Grandchildren Tom (Jennifer) Harned, Andrea Harned, Adam Harned, Erin Harned, Mindy Izzo, Luke Buker and 2 Great Grandchildren. Nieces, Janice Hardy, Audrey Emanuel, Barbara Kleven, and B. Sue Smith. Preceded in death by his parents, wife Genevieve, sisters, Willma Moss, and Dawn Wilcox. A special thank you to Crimson Pointe Assisted Living for the care and compassion shown to our Dad.
