David Carl Gathercoal

David Carl Gathercoal, 86, of Poplar Grove, IL, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born May 14, 1938, in Evanston, Illinois. The son of Kenneth Benson and Anne (Bezdek) Gathercoal Sr. He graduated from St. George High School in Evanston and then went on to serve our county in the United States Marine Corps. David married the love of his life, Karen Sue Hundrieser on December 30, 1958, in Glenview, IL. He retired from the Glenview Park District Golf Course after 50 + years as Maintenance Supervisor.  David was a huge Chicago Cubs and Bears Fan.  He loved being outside and helping others.  Most of all he was a family man and loved spending time with his wife and children and grandchildren.  He is loved and will be missed by his sons, James Gathercoal, David Gathercoal Jr.; daughters, Susan (Bryan) Brockman, Sharon (Samuel) Ochoa; Betty (Fernando Rueda) Gathercoal; 18 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; brothers, John “Jack” (Barb) Gathercoal, Robert “Bob” Gathercoal. He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife of 62 years, Karen; son, Richard Gathercoal; grandchildren, Samuel Ochoa Jr., Brianne Karen Gathercoal; daughter-in-law, Donna Gathercoal; brother, Kenneth Gathercoal Jr.; sister-in-law, Diane Gathercoal. There will be a visitation Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 9:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at Belvidere Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Belvidere, IL. A funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 A.M. at St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere, IL. Interment in All Saints Catholic Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL.
