Donald Monahan

Donald J. Monahan, 79, of Belvidere, IL passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Northwoods Care Centre in Belvidere, IL after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. The son of the late Francis and Elsie (McKillip) Monahan, he was born on June 1, 1939 in Elk Grove Township, WI. Donald married the love of his life, Margelyn Ann Richardson, on June 29, 1968 in Benton, WI. He retired from Chrysler in 1999 after 34 years and was also a member of Catholic Order of Foresters, U.A.W. Local 1268, and Poplar Grove Lions Club. Donald is loved and will be missed by his beloved wife, Margelyn of Belvidere, IL; sons, Sean Monahan of Rockford, IL, Scott Monahan of Galena, IL; daughter, Traci (Eric) Miller of Neenah WI; grandchildren, Nicholas Miller, Lorelai Miller; brother, James (Retta) Monahan of Benton, WI. Donald will be remembered fondly by several sisters and brothers in law as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. There will be a visitation on Monday, December 10, 2018 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Belvidere Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Belvidere, IL. There will be a second visitation on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 from 9:00 A.M. to 9:45 A.M. at the funeral home. A funeral mass will begin at 10:00 A.M. at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Brian Geary officiating. Interment will take place at Highland Garden of Memories in Belvidere, IL. The family would like to thank the staff at Northwoods Care Centre and Heartland Hospice for the care of Donald over the past two years. A memorial fund has been established in the family’s name.
