Elizabeth Wilt Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) Lou Wilt, 89, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, IL, with her children by her side. Daughter of the late Joseph and Hildur (Swanson) Bennett, she was born on Monday, January 12, 1931 in Rockford, IL. Elizabeth graduated from East High School in 1947 and then went to the Rockford School of Business, graduating in 1949 with a degree in Secretarial Science. She married the love of her life, Vernon Wilt, on Friday, April 27, 1951 in Cherry Valley, IL. They moved to Spokane, WA for two years while Vern was in the Air Force, returning to Cherry Valley, then to Belvidere to raise their family. Betty was the secretary at First United Methodist Church in Belvidere, IL for 19 years until retirement in 1987. She continued to be active in the church organizations and social functions after retirement. She and Vernon enjoyed traveling with their family, especially camping all over the country. Elizabeth and Vernon enjoyed being "Snowbirds" in Bradenton, Florida for 25 years. They also enjoyed cruises of the Caribbean, Panama Canal, and Alaska. She enjoyed playing cards, board games, golfing, and she was proud to say she had gotten a "Hole in One". Elizabeth enjoyed a family tradition of going to the Boone County Fair Breakfast for 30 years. Most of all, she enjoyed being with her family. Elizabeth is loved and will be deeply missed by her son, Gary (Susan) Wilt; daughters, Lori (Ken) Moshier, Kris (Doug) Hike; grandchildren, Lisa (Jason) Braun, Erick Powell, Timothy (Brittney) Moshier, Jessica (Nick) LeCrone, Nick (Samantha) Thompson, Heather (Alec) Frey; great grandchildren, Cody, Kaily, Madeline, Carly, Elizabeth, Evangeline, Jude. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Hildur; beloved husband, Vernon. There will be a visitation with social restrictions on Thursday, December 31, 2020 from 9:00 A.M. to 9:45 A.M. at First United Methodist Church in Belvidere, IL. There will be a private funeral service beginning at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Jim Bell officiating. The service will be live streamed at http://yourstreamlive.com/events/1735805. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Machesney Park, IL. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Wesley Willows Arbor Staff for their love and care for their parents. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in the family’s name.
