Gene Evans Obituary

Gene Colan Evans, 94, of Poplar Grove, IL, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 9, 2024, surrounded by his family at his home. He was born on July 15, 1930, in Faulkner County, Arkansas, the son of W. Floyd and Letha (Sharp) Evans. Gene served our country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Gene married Joan Haydam April 11, 1959, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Volo, IL. He drove cement trucks and was the plant operator for Enterprise Ready Mix. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere and was a member of the Teamsters Local 301. He enjoyed traveling to all 50 states with his wife Joan and enjoyed winters with her in Everglades City, Florida. Gene was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his puzzles and coloring books. Most of all he was a family man. He is loved and will be missed by his beloved wife of 65 years, Joan Evans, children, Gene (Lisa) Evans, Joan (Richard) Orr, James (Amy) Evans, William Evans, and John Evans; 10 grandchildren; brother, Jimmie (June) Evans; sister, Janis Wilson; sister-in-law, Laura Evans. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Bonnie Walters, Connie Baker, Roland Evans, and Majel Evans. There will be a visitation Monday, November 18, 2024, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. at the Belvidere Funeral Home in Belvidere, IL. A funeral Mass will begin at 12:00 P.M. at St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere, IL. Interment at St. Peters Catholic Church in Volo, IL will follow.
