Gerald Luckey Obituary

Gerald Kenneth Luckey, 70, of Belvidere, IL, passed away on January 24, 2023, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. He was born on January 29, 1952 to the late Kenneth and Betty (Decker) Luckey in Belvidere, IL. He married the love of his life, Michelle Volsch on March 24, 1973, in Cherry Valley, IL. Jerry attended Guilford High School and proudly earned his GED in 1985. He worked as an Inspector at Elco industries for 18 years. Then began working in sales before retiring in 2014. After retirement he enjoyed woodworking, creating Jerry’s Woodcrafts and participating in many local craft shows. You could always count on him for a special gift on any occasion. Papa always made sure every grandchild and great-grandchild received a rocking chair or doll cradle on their first birthday, hand made by him. He took great pride in his yard and flowers which included earning Yard of the Month. He was always so proud of his children and grandchildren no matter what. Always being front and center at all sporting or school events. In his free time, he enjoyed country drives and family picnics at the park which included fishing with his grandchildren. Jerry also leaves behind his best friend, Golden Retriever Max (Silly Willy). A special shoutout to family friend Tom Hughart for always being there to lend a hand and give Jerry a good laugh. Also, Jackie Heinzman (mother of Dylan and Tori) and family for always being there for the family. A special thank you to the staff at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center and the OSF Medical Group for their Care, Compassion, and Support during this difficult time. Jerry is loved and will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Michelle; daughter, Sheila (Robert) Filipowicz; son, Steven (Elke) Luckey; grandchildren, Katie, Kyle, Payton, Zak, Dylan, Tori, Joey; great grandchildren, Jayden, River. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family in Gerald’s name for one of Gerald’s favorite charities.
