Gertrude Marion Aubrey “Grandma Gert”, 102, of Naples, FL, formerly of Union, IL., passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Sunday, March 10, 2024. She was born June 4, 1921 in Huntley, IL, to the late Harry and Mamie (Hegberg) Sarbaugh. She graduated Marengo High School and then went on to graduate from Ellis Business College. She married the love of her life, Donald Miles Aubrey June 27, 1942 at Marengo Baptist Church. She was the CEO of Aubrey Manufacturing INC., Union, Il, National Industries, Ocala, Fl., and Aubrey National of Arlington, Tx. her family businesses she ran with her son Bob. She also served on the Board of Directors for Union Bank. Gert was always up for anything but especially loved to dance, laugh, play bridge, work in her yard, babysit grandchildren and great grandchildren and play a slot machine from time to time. She enjoyed a good meal and would never complain about anything. Gert had an Olympic sized pool in her backyard that she (and Lenny) maintained for over 60 years. The grace and elegance in the way she would swim in the pool will always be remembered by generations of family members and friends. She was a 60 year honorary member of Marengo Women’s Club. She was an inspiration to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.

She is loved and will be missed by her beloved daughter-in-law Caren Jo Aubrey; grandchildren, Susan (Raymond) McMullen, Shelley (Jay) Spivey, Stacey (Mike) Pedersen, Lisa Lozelle, Jennifer (Quino) Martinez, Robert Aubrey II (Audrey), Brady Aubrey; great grandchildren, Christopher, Alivia (Emerson), Jessica, Justin, LeAnne, Allison, Riley (Karina), Clair, Charlie, Grant, Grace, Aubrey Kate, Mallory, Ayla, Logan, Lindsey; great great granddaughter Sutton Rae; sister Patsy (Robert) Foster and many nieces, nephews as well as her Memory Care family of Naples, Fl. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Miles Aubrey; daughter and son-in-law Connie Rae and Checker St. John; son Robert Miles Aubrey I; siblings Marvin (June) Sarbaugh, Richard (Betty) Sarbaugh, Betty (Clarence) Karsten, Robert (Gloria) Sarbaugh, Harriet (Edward) Zenk, Vernon (Darlene) Sarbaugh, Marilyn (Harry) Slavin.

There will be a visitation Tuesday, March 19, 2024 from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church Union, IL. A funeral Service will begin at 11:00 A.M. Interment in Union Cemetery in Union, IL. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Marengo Women’s Club Scholarship Fund, St. John’s Lutheran Church, or the American Cancer Society in honor and memory of her children. “Don’t cry because it’s over, Smile because it happened” Dr. Seuss.
