Herman R. Steinke

Herman R. Steinke, age 93 of Belvidere, IL, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, FL. He was born December 20, 1919, the son of the late Richard and Ellen (Pagelloff) Steinke. He married Mildred Campbell; she passed away in November of 1991. Herman married Nelda Ollmann on January 9, 1993. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he served on the sanctuary staff. His memberships also include the VFW, the Men's Gardening Club, and the D.A.V. Hermann had worked for the Belvidere Candy Company, Wait & Coleman Dairies, Kopp's Bakery, and the IL Toll Way. He enjoyed the outdoors, dancing, painting, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Nelda; daughters Cindy (Don O'Brien) Taylor of Caledonia, IL and Wendy (Gary) Dahle of Sarasota, FL; son Dennis Steinke of Lakeland, FL; 4 grandchildren, Jeff (Vanessa) Taylor, Brandy (Dave Juris) Taylor, Mikel Wylie, and Kara (Ian) Lewis; 14 great grandchildren; and sister Bernice Williams of Arlington, TX.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Mildred, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters.

A visitation will be held Monday, April 1, 2013 from 6 to 8 PM at the Belvidere Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Belvidere. Internment will be held at the Belvidere Cemetery. A memorial service will be held in Lakland,FL at a later date. A memorial fund has been established for the Salvation Army.
