Jacob "Jack" Rio Obituary

Jacob "Jack" Rocco Rio, 82, of Poplar Grove, IL passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at Javon Bea Hospital-Riverside. Son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Mannone) Rio. Jack was born on Wednesday, December 28, 1938, in Elmwood Park, IL. He married the love of his life, Judith Walters, on Saturday, January 16, 1960, at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Chicago, IL. Jack worked for Gonnella Baking Co. for 42 years. He was lucky enough to have loved his job and the people that he worked with and formed many lifelong friendships along the way. Jack loved to fish with his wife Judy and took many trips to WI, MN, and Canada. Once he retired, he and Judy built their dream home on Candlewick Lake where he was able to regularly fish with his children, grandchildren, and other family members. He loved trips to the casinos where he many times was a winner and looked forward to Wednesday afternoons playing Pony Canasta with the Candlewick Flames. Jack hated to miss an episode of Judge Judy and the joke in the family was that he could fix anything with glue. Papa Rio/Uncle Jack was known for and always greeted his grandsons and nephews with an intricately detailed handshake that was entertaining to watch. He was quick witted and had a clever sense of humor that his friends and family will deeply miss. His passing will forever leave a hole in our hearts. Jack is loved and will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Judith; children, Jeffrey (Kimberly) Rio, Joel (Tina) Rio, Jacqueline (Edward "Brian") Lenick, and Jerome (Maritta) Rio; grandchildren, Adam Rio, Jake (Jessica Norman) Rio, Rachel (Alex) Lawrence, Zachary (Kayla Schumacher) Rio, Lindsay Lenick, Erik Rio, Karl Rio, Dana Rio, Grace Lenick, and Luke Lenick; great granddaughter, Josephine Isabella Lawrence; brother, Joseph Rio; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Josephine; brothers, Anthony Rio, Robert Rio, and Samuel Rio. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, July 26, 2021, at Belvidere Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27, 2021. There will be a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
