James Robert Gorham

James Robert Gorham, 44, of Crystal Lake, IL, passed away April 2, 2026. Born on September 15, 1981, in Rockford, James was the cherished son of James F. and Cindy M. (Jalowy) Gorham. From a young age, he was defined by his gentle heart and an immense, quiet creativity that stayed with him throughout his life.

A 2000 graduate of Belvidere High School, James was an artist at heart. Whether he was lost in a sketch, crafting unique and imaginative Lego creations, or building and refining his RC cars, he found joy in the details. He had a playful sense of humor and an uncanny ability to find the perfect television or movie quote for any situation - a gift for timing that brought laughter and smiles to those around him.

Above all, James was a family man. He cherished the simple things: fishing trips with his dad, family game nights, and quiet evenings watching his favorite shows. He took great pride in being an uncle, spending time cheering on his nephews, Kai and Dex, at their sporting events.

James is held in the hearts of his loving mother, Cindy Gorham; his adoring sister, Tanya (Brad) Surdick; and his grandmother, Darlene Streit. He will be deeply missed by his aunt, Cindy Hathaway; his nephews, Kai and Dex Surdick; his cousins, Zachary (Dena) Lamping, Dena Gates, and Tyler (Sam) Hathaway; and his faithful companion, his dog Oliver.

James is reunited with his father, James Gorham; his grandparents, Walter and Alvine Jalowy, Donald Streit, Francis and Geraldine Gorham, and Paula Jalowy; his aunt and uncles, Gary and Judy Lamping and William Hathaway; his cousin Kaelyn Hathaway; and his first dog and loyal companion, Andre.
