Joyce Marie Creighton, 71, of Belvidere, IL passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 10, 2024. She was born July 6, 1952, in Chicago, IL to the late Joseph and Genevieve (Kilobassa) Zwierzyna. After graduating Ridgewood High School in 1970, she landed a job where she met the love of her life, James Creighton. They were married May 13, 1979, in Oak Park, IL. Joyce held many roles in life, none more important than as a mother & grandmother. When she suddenly lost her husband in 1998, she worked tirelessly to ensure that her children were always taken care of. Even when life brought tough challenges her way, she fought every single one while never losing her positivity or faith.

She was a proud member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Belvidere, IL where she enjoyed her bible study. Religion was such a pillar in her life that she wrote and published a book called “Riding the Waves of God”. She also volunteered at the Belvidere Keen Age Center, helping seniors to live their best lives. Joyce enjoyed playing with her cats, doing puzzles, sitting on the beaches in California, traveling with her daughter, watching “I Love Lucy “and boating up at her cousin’s lake house in Wisconsin.

She is loved and will be missed by her children, Brandon (Nicole Danos) Creighton, Heather (Chris) Anthony; grandchildren, Erini and Nefeli Creighton; sisters, Lynda (the late John) Epperson, Nancy (Don) Bergman; sister-in law Jayme Zwierzyna; several nieces, nephews, numerous other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband; and brother, Daniel Zwierzyna.

There will be a visitation Friday, April 12, 2024, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Belvidere Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Belvidere, IL. On Saturday, April 13, 2024, a second visitation from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., and a funeral service at 11:00 A.M., will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Belvidere, IL. Interment in St. Adalbert Catholic Cemetery & Mausoleums in Niles, IL to follow the service. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Belvidere Keen Age Center.
