Kenneth Anderson Obituary

Kenneth Dale “Chief” Anderson, 78, of Belvidere, Illinois passed away on September 8th, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Kenny was born in McHenry County on January 4th, 1947, to Carl and Josie (Meier) Anderson. Kenny has lived in the Belvidere area since his youth and attended high school here. After graduation, he attended multiple educational institutions starting at Rock Valley College. He then attended University of Wisconsin in LaCrosse, Northern Illinois University and eventually earned his Masters Degree in education from Lewis University. Kenny used his education to pursue a career in teaching and worked for many years at his alma mater, Belvidere High School.

Later on in his life, he met Jean O’Mara and they fell in love. They were wed at her parents’ home, located on the Belvidere Fairgrounds on October 29th, 1977. They shared many remarkable years together, blending their families and building a home. With open arms and open hearts, they invited those who crossed their path to share in their journey until they had more family than you could fit at a table.

Kenny was a true lover of the game of baseball. He enjoyed baseball so much, he found the ability to root for both of Chicago’s teams (but would pick the Sox over the Cubs if it came down to it). He also had the honor of sharing the sport he loved with many other generations through his commitment to coaching. Chief coached baseball at Belvidere high school for 35 years and enjoyed the opportunity to mentor so many children through Belvidere Youth Baseball during that time. When not at the diamond, Kenny found peace and solace while hunting and fishing with his brothers and numerous good friends. He was also an avid reader with a particular interest in detective novels.

Kenny is survived by his beloved wife, Jean; his cherished children, son Patrick (Jill) Durley and daughter Samantha (Darren) Kerschieter; grandchildren Marisa (Kyle) Weyeneth; Samuel (Whitney) Durley; Reed (Morgan) Durley; Drew Kerschieter; Bailey (Chris) Kerschieter, Dalton Kerschieter, and Sage Yoho; great-grandchildren Eli, Lillian, Lena, Leo, Bo Riggs and Davey; brothers Jerald (Kathy) Anderson, Thomas (Susanne) Anderson, Teddy (Teri) Anderson; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and three very faithful standard poodles, Harriet, Lucy Lu and Stella.

Kenny was preceded in death by his devoted parents; daughters Laura Jean Brown and Teresa Anderson; and grandson Ian Brown.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the selfless caregivers at the OSF hospice in Loves Park, IL, with a special mention to Lisa, Kim and Franz. Your compassion will always be remembered.
