Margaret "Sue" Flott Obituary

Margaret Susan “Sue” Flott, 92, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at her home. She was born on October 14, 1930, to the late Orville and Margaret (Boll) Haugen in Cleveland, OH. The family moved to Evanston, IL when Sue was in 6th grade. Her father was promoted to the Greyhound Corporate Office working close to 30 years for the company. Sue enjoyed theatre and was cast in a Northwestern University Children’s Theatre Production while in junior high. It was something she cherished and moved forward with in her life. She graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1948 and received the drama award. Sue graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1952 with a bachelor’s in speech education. She was awarded a coveted “Key” from Wisconsin Players. Sue was a member of Delta Delta Delta Social Sorority and served as an officer. She was also a member of Zeta Phi Eta (professional speech sorority) and served as president her senior year. In the fall of 1952, she went to work at CBS Television in Chicago, IL. She did a variety of jobs and advanced to the job of Production Co-Ordinator in 1954. In 1953 She Met Fleming W. Flott and on April 10, 1954 they were married in Evanston, IL. In the fall of 1954 they moved to Fulton, IL where they both were teachers. They then moved to Belvidere, IL where Fleming started teaching physical education at Washington School and Belvidere Junior High. She then went on to work for WREX in Rockford, IL. After years of the commute to Rockford, she decided to try substitute teaching until she had children. Sue and Fleming were members of First Presbyterian Church, served as a Deacon, were elders, taught Sunday school, and were CE directors. Sue then joined Junior Women’s Club and St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary. She served on the Belvidere Heart Association’s Board, as well as the Belvidere Panhellenic Society. She began real estate in 1978, working for George Popp at Century 21, where she received her broker’s license and GRI designation. Sue served on the Belvidere Realtor’s Board for a number of years and was president in 1991. She also served on the Board of Growth Dimensions. She was named Realtor of the Year in 1994 and retired in 2000. Since Sue had a love for theatre she joined Main Street Players of Boone County and served on the board for 10 years. She did some acting and directing and loved every minute of it. Sue loved to travel and play bridge in her spare time. Sue is loved and will be deeply missed by her son, William “Billy” Flott. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Margaret; beloved husband, Fleming; daughter, Margaret Ann “Muffet” Flott . There will be a funeral service on Monday, March 13, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church in Belvidere, IL beginning at 10:00 A.M. A visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. until the time of service which will promptly start at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in the name of Margaret Susan Flott.
