Mary “Janet” Lacke, 85, of Belvidere, IL, passed away suddenly on April 27, 2024. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was born in Galena, IL on August 7, 1938. The daughter of Joseph and Vera (Beadle) Wienen. She graduated Scales Mound HS 1956. She married Thomas D. Lacke on October 9th, 1965, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church Galena, IL. Janet's life was marked by selflessness, kindness, and generosity touching the hearts of all who knew her. Janet dedicated many years to volunteering. She served at St. James Catholic School, St. James Parish, and as a pink lady at St. Joseph Hospital. Her commitment to helping others was a cornerstone of her character. She loved playing cards, puzzles, crosswords, sewing and engaging in board games with loved ones. She looked forward to her weekly Euchre nights at the Belvidere Moose and her breakfast and lunches with her dear friends. Her family will forever remember the warmth of her kitchen, where they enjoyed her baked cookies and pies. Married for 58 years to her loving husband Tom, Janet was a pillar of support and love. Together, they raised five children, providing encouragement and attending every game and performance with pride. Janet's presence brought comfort and joy to her family and friends. Janet's faith was an integral part of her life. A faithful Catholic, she blessed her family and friends with daily prayers, offering solace and strength through her devotion. She will be deeply missed by her husband Tom, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as by the countless friends she touched with her kindness. Janet is survived by her husband, Tom Lacke and five children Jackie (Jeff) Froelich, Susan (Trevor) Towns, Debbie (Scott) Yunk, Jill (Greg) Johannes and Kevin (Nicole) Lacke. Thirteen grandchildren Amy (Matt) Starker & Andy Froelich, Austin & Owen Towns, Skyler, Mason & Connor Yunk, Colin, Lauren & Jack Johannes, Luke, Tyler & Alyssa Lacke. One great grandchild, Henry Starker; 2 sisters-in-law: Jeanette Wienen and Barbara Schonhoff, and 1 brother-in-law: Dan Lacke. She is preceded in death by daughter Amy Lynn, parents and brother Wayne Wienen. There will be a visitation held at Belvidere Funeral Home on Thursday, May 2, 2024, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with a Rosary to be said at 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be at St. James Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024. Interment in St. James Catholic Cemetery in Belvidere, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family or St. James Catholic Church in Janet’s honor.
