Maxine Ruth Wendell, 82, of Belvidere, IL passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at her home. She was born Monday, December 27, 1937 in Coggon, IA. She married John Wendell on June 12, 1971 in Belvidere, IL. She was the bookkeeper at Manley Motors for 17 years, after a two years off, she then became a bookkeeper at R. J. Daniels for 25 years. Maxine was a hard worker and very proud of the position she held.
Maxine volunteered for many organizations during her lifetime. Two she held very dear to her were volunteering at the Belvidere Funeral Home after the 1967 tornado and later in life volunteering at the Keen Age Center. Maxine’s passion was cooking. She loved cooking for her family, preparing meals and sweets for John’s fishing trips and teaching the grandkids how to bake. Her favorite holiday was Halloween and she looked forward all year to preparing a feast for her family and seeing all the kids dressed up. This love of cooking lead her to begin creating her own cook book
She is survived by her beloved husband, John Wendell; sons, David (Lisa) Grenlund, Joshua (Jill) Wendell; grandchildren, Kyle (Shelby) Grenlund, Nicholas (Claudia) Grenlund, Tallory & Griffin Wendell; great-grandchildren, Kaiden & Aleeah Grenlund, Georgiana Grenlund; sister, Margaret (John Larson) Schultz; sister-in-law, Elsie LeClere; brother-in-law Jerry (Gay) Bowles; sisters-in-law, Karen (Dr. Peter) Nennhaus, Jean Kelley; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and John Owens; brother, Richard LeClere; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ernest and Maureene Wendell; brother-in-law, Jim Schultz; nephew Craig Schultz; and niece Cheryl Permann. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Belvidere Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Belvidere, IL. Private burial at a later date. In observance of the COVID-19 pandemic we will be practicing social distancing. We will also require masks.
