Patrick Freeman Obituary

Patrick Noel Freeman, 74, of Belvidere, ended his battle with cancer on May 1, 2023, surrounded by his family at his home. Born in Belvidere on December 31, 1948, to Kenneth and Deloris (Williams) Freeman. He was the 10th of their 12 children. He attended Belvidere High School and joined the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971, stationed in Alaska. On February 1, 1974, Pat married his beautiful and loving wife Ruthann Gamlin in Rockton, Illinois. He went on to work at Belvidere Disposal and Mi Place. He drove trucks for various trucking companies. He owned and operated his own business, Freeman Roofing, for 10 years. He worked for Anderson Underground, which he retired from in 2003, at the age of 55. He then went on to work at Ace Hardware for 17 years. He and Ruthann bought land in Hale, Missouri in 2001. They worked hard to turn an overgrown 40 acres into a beautiful home away from home for their kids and grandkids to spend time with grandma and grandpa. Pat is survived and will forever be missed by his wife Ruthann of almost 50 years, Daughters, Amy (Scott) Leggio of Shelbyville, Tennessee, Erin (Rob) Pearson of Belvidere, Illinois. Son, Dan (Rene) Freeman of Phoenix, Arizona. Grandchildren, Kari (Tony) Velasco, Logan (Myah) Brown, Hailey Keilman, Kelsey Keilman, Garrett Pearson, Natalie Pearson, Tanner Pearson, Doc Freeman and Jake Freeman. Great grandchildren Jackson Tracy and Chase Velasco. Siblings Mike Freeman, Rose (Fred Steurer) Lind, Carol (Lee) Raymond, Mary (Ron) Popham. Surviving sister-in-laws Trudy Freeman, Sandy Freeman, Diane Freeman, Joyce Freeman, Janis (Jeff) Strate and Susan Gamlin. Surviving brothers-in-laws Gary Gamlin, Terry (Jill) Gamlin, Rob (Chris) Gamlin and Greg Gamlin as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Pat is preceded in death by his parents KL and Dee, in laws Gail and Nina Gamlin, siblings Phil Freeman, Terry Freeman, Harry Freeman, Archie Freeman, Butch Freeman, Larry Joe Freeman and Susie Mckenna. Sister in Laws Ruth Freeman, Nancy Freeman and Bernadette Gamlin. Brother-in-laws Roger Gray, Ervin Lind and Dave Mckenna. Special thank you to the CCU nurses at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, especially Audrey, Kayla and Emily who assisted Pat in his battle. There will be a visitation on Sunday, May 7, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at Belvidere Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will begin on May 8, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Belvidere Cemetery. Memorials can be made in Pat’s name to the family.
