Peter Dougherty

Peter Matthew Dougherty, 60, of Belvidere, IL, passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at his home. Son of the late Frank David and Alice L. (Kinslow) Dougherty, he was born on May 1, 1961 in Westwood, NJ. Pete made friends with almost everyone he met. He had a unique sense of humor that made everyone laugh. He was a “pistol” and in later years developed the nickname “Pistol” (Pete). He was such a motorcycle enthusiast that he even had schooling in motorcycle mechanics and received certification from Harley Davidson. He also enjoyed fishing, kayaking, camping, and watching westerns on Grit TV.  He loved working and spending time with his nephew (buddy) Tom Dougherty. He also had special relationships with nephew, Dan Shell; and nieces, Allison (Bush) Finedore and Shannon (Moore) Regan. Pete was a father figure to many children, although he had none of his own. Pete would always help anyone in need, even strangers. He was most admired though for his honesty. He was “straight up” and didn’t mince any words. You knew exactly where you stood with him, which endeared many to him. Pete will be fondly remembered! Peter is loved and will be deeply missed by his brothers, Pat Dougherty, Mike Dougherty, Steve (Corlie Sue Ellis) Dougherty; sisters, Marie Bush, Nancy (Mouse) Brunner, Sue Dougherty, Annette Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Alice; brother, Daniel James Dougherty; brother in law, Larry Johnson. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Belvidere Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Belvidere, IL.
