Robert Whitney Obituary

Robert H. Whitney, 96, of Alabaster, AL, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. He was Born March 9, 1927, in Rockford, IL. The son of the late, Samuel and Bertha (Hood) Whitney. He graduated from Belvidere High School and then joined the United States Navy Where he served our country during WWII. He married the love of his life, Cora Bremer on May 31, 1951. He worked at Barnes Drill International as an engineer and salesman. His work gave him the opportunity to travel to Australia, Buenos Aires, Germany, and Mexico.  Robert was a loving husband and father. He had a quick wit and a great personality. He was a member of the Belvidere VFW and the YMCA Retired Men’s Club. He enjoyed woodworking, golfing and going open water and ice fishing. He loved his peanut butter, chicken, and blueberry pie. He is loved and will be missed by his daughters, Lorene G. Whitney, and Robin J. (Richard) Mayer; grandson, Martin Mayer; brother, Lorenzo Whitney; sister-in-law; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ronald Whitney, and Samuel Whitney Jr.; sister, Nan Tindell. There will be a graveside service at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Belvidere Cemetery in Belvidere, IL. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to https://dementiasociety.org/donation.
