Viola Adeline Carolfi, 86, of Belvidere, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford, IL. She was born April 20, 1938, in Auburndale, Wisconsin. Vi was the seventh child of 15 born to Anton and Alma (Schiferl) Grossbier. She met Butch Carolfi at a local dance hall and their shared love of polka music continued throughout their relationship. On June 26, 1957, Vi married Butch, the love of her life, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Auburndale, Wisconsin. Vi’s Catholic faith was very important to her with a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere, IL. Vi dedicated her life to supporting her children with activities at the Blind Center, the Girl & Boy Scouts, and at the softball diamond. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, and playing games such as cribbage, solitaire, and all types of puzzles with her kids and grandkids. She was a natural at making sure everyone felt welcome wherever she happened to be with many people lovingly calling her “Mom”. She will be greatly missed by her beloved husband of almost 68 years, Butch; children, Jan (Kurt) Helmig, Lori (Mark) Nelson, Bud (Cheryl Platt) Carolfi, Jodi (Steve) Rippon; granddaughters, Kayla & Courtney Rippon; siblings, Rosie (Skip) Skibba, Ralph (Judy) Grossbier, Wally Grossbier; siblings-in-law Pat Grossbier, Josephine Grossbier, Jill Grossbier, Ron Kielpinski; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Bernice Grossbier, Leo Grossbier, Walt Grossbier, Millie Schiller, Bob Grossbier, Gene Grossbier, Jim Grossbier, Cel (Rich) Raschke, Ellie (Ron) Ertl, Harry Grossbier, Mary Kielpinski. There will be a visitation Friday, March 21, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:30 at the Belvidere Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Belvidere, IL. A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. at St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere, IL. Interment in St. James Catholic Cemetery in Belvidere, IL.
