Wanda Stepp

Wanda Lee Stepp, 84, of Belvidere, IL passed away August 17, 2023, surrounded by family and friends at her home. She was born January 9, 1939, in Bardley, Missouri to the late James (Elmer) and Josephine (Ella) Purl. She married Robert Eugene (Gene) Stepp on November 8, 1975. He preceded her in death on January 21, 2007. Wanda worked for several years at the Admiral Radio and TV Plant in Harvard, IL as well as Information Controls Incorporated in Rockford, IL. Wanda was involved with the Moose and American Legion with Gene for several years. She was a member of Rockford United General Baptist Church for several years. She was one of 10 siblings in the family. Wanda enjoyed bowling, travelling, yard work, loving their beloved pets, crossword puzzles, western TV shows, classic country music, NASCAR racing, and spending time with her grandbabies. In addition to her husband, Wanda was preceded in death by her son, Earnest Kohl; brothers, Alvin Purl, Ralph Purl, Eldon (Ed) Purl; sisters, Beaulah Ingram, Betty Enerson, Bonnie Harvey, Velma Whitehead. Wanda is survived by her children, Edward Kohl (Joann Brown) and Lawanda Tongate; brother, Jerry (Vicky) Purl; sister, Kathryn (Roger) Rockwell; grandchildren, Tina (Chris) Bedell, Christopher (Jen) Kline, Jennifer Schrader (Jon Ames), Tia Kohl (Kevin), Amber Kohl, Seth (Sierra) Kohl, Shane Kohl. Wanda loved and adored her great –grandchildren, Darian, CJ, Casey, Maddie, Kate, Katelynn, Nathan, Matthew, and Kaiden along with great-great-grandchildren Brianna and Willow. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at Belvidere Funeral Home & Cremation Service beginning at 1:00 P.M. A visitation will begin at 11:00 A.M. until the time of service. Interment will take place at Belvidere Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boone County Council on Aging.
