Charles Herbert Iehl, 93, of Belvidere, IL passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. The son of the late Oliver M. and Dorothy M. (Cook) Iehl, he was born on Saturday, November 7, 1925 in Chicago, IL. Charles graduated from Crane High School in Chicago, IL and went on to serve his country in The United States Marine Corp participating in action at Guam and Iwo Jima during World War II. He worked as an Electrotyper for Central Typesetting & Electrotyping Company for many years. Charles was a member of the VFW, Loyal Order of Moose, Independent Order of Svithiod, and youth member and adult Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts of America. Charles was a lifelong learner all the way to the end. He experienced many years of joy with his gardening and bird watching. Charles is loved and will be deeply missed by his children, Bruce Iehl, Wayne (Sandy) Iehl, Linda (Roger) Bradley, Karen (Marty) Iehl – Morse, Brian (Michelle) Iehl, Nancy Baker; stepchildren, Michelle Marrs, Warren (Janice) Marrs; grandchildren, Wendy Iehl (Darren), Allison Iehl Curry, Sarah Iehl, Melissa (Mike) Merker, Jennifer (Joshua) Dixon, Joel Bradley (Krista), Melissa (Scott) Thompson, Steven Morse, Samuel Morse, Valerie Iehl, Carlie Iehl, Luke Iehl, Kevin Baker, Brandon Baker, Holly Baker, Zachary Marrs, John Marrs; great grandchildren, Mason, Matthew, Madison, Malissa, Amara, Taylor, Caleb, Emily, Helen, Nathan, Daniel, Elliot, Eve, Hannah. Charles was a loved uncle to the Greene's: Penny, Jim, Vicky, David, Becky and the Leavitt family nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, first wife of 52 years, Helen Leavitt; second wife of 17 years, Mynette Biehl; sister, Gloria Greene. The Iehl family is eternally grateful to the wonderful staff of Heartland Hospice who lovingly, joyfully, and compassionately helped care for Dad for nearly two years.There will be a visitation on Monday, April 22, 2019 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Belvidere Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Belvidere, IL. A funeral service will begin at 7:00 P.M. with Pastor Mike Merker officiating. Interment will take place in Arlington Cemetery in Elmhurst, IL on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. In honor of Charles, memorials can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
