Phillip Metzger

Phillip Ralph Metzger, 72, of Belvidere, IL passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, IL. The son of the late Ralph and Evelyn (White) Metzger he was born on Thursday, July 10, 1947 in Mason City, IA. He married the love of his life, Kathleen Key, on Saturday, April 28, 1979 in Rockford, IL. Phillip served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked at Chrysler for over 30 years starting in 1969. He was a Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Twins, and Minnesota Vikings fan. He hated squirrels. Phillip is loved and will be deeply missed by his wife, Kathy; daughters, Erin Metzger, Shannon Metzger, Megan Metzger; brothers in law, Mike (Patti) Key, Drs. Steve (Liz) Key, Tim (Denise) Key; sisters in law, Jeanine (Michael) Nunes, Chris (John) Toohey. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Janice Metzger; numerous aunts and uncles. There will be a visitation on Sunday, August 11, 2019 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at Belvidere Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will begin at 4:00 P.M. with Rev. William Wentink officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in the family’s name to be used for a charity of their choice.
